Getting Ready for a Trip

So, I am going on a trip soon, and spent my weekend cleaning the house and doing chores to get ready to leave town.  I did the same on Monday, and Tuesday, I dragged out the suitcases, and started packing. I had help. Taki nosed around the carry on bag, and climbed into the body of the large suitcase. More than once.

My cats do not like my being gone. I have a really good cat sitter who visits with the cats twice a day, and tries to play with them.  They do not play much.  Haiku likes to cuddle.  Taki likes to bite. But, when she wants to be held, she is very clear in giving signals about her desire.

It took me five days this time to get ready for my trip.  I am a single adult, traveling alone.  What do people do who have children?

Storms

Severe thunder storms were predicted for today, starting late morning, and going through quickly. They were worse west of the city than in town, and in fact, midday, they were worse just a few blocks west of where I live.

Tonight, about 7 PM, the storms blew through again. More rain at my house this time. Which is good. If it did not rain, I would have wanted to water the trees tomorrow.

In the area, rain, heavy rain, hail that is as thick as snow.  But not in Lubbock.

Thousand Island Dressing

I was a freshman in college when I was introduced to Thousand Island Dressing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousand_Island_dressing. We made our own, out of mayonnaise, ketchup, and whatnot.  I never much thought about why it was called Thousand Island Dressing. I am aware of the Thousand Island Region between Canada and the United States on the St. Lawrence Seaway https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousand_Islands, but duh! never associated the two.  Well, while watching Mysteries at the Museum http://www.travelchannel.com/shows/mysteries-at-the-museum, they did a presentation on the "controversy" of the origin of the recipe.  They concluded it was Sophia LaLonde  who originated the recipe.  That is neat!
