One of my favorite musicals is The Sound of Music. ABC is airing it tonight in a sing-a-long version http://abc.go.com/shows/movies-and-specials/listings/the-sound-of-music-singalong. When there is a song, the words come on the screen, and change color as they are song by the characters of the movie.
This is reminiscent of "Sing Along with Mitch" http://www.tv.com/shows/sing-along-with-mitch/. Many people thought this was a corny show then, and think it is still corny. I have to wonder if they would think a movie sing-a-long is corny.
I don't.
Not only that, but for many of my favorite musicals, I can pretty much sing the songs anyway. I am especially bad about Fiddler on the Roof. I went to see a community theater production of that, and I knew a lot of the dialogue as well as the lyrics, I have seen it so much.
Anyway, I love the idea of being encouraged to sing along.
