Kayaking

In 2007, a friend and I purchased sit on top kayaks, and started kayaking in the playa lakes of Lubbock,Texas.  The city regulates which playa lakes can be used for boating and requires the users to have a (free) permit in possession.  http://www.playlubbock.com/outdoor/fishBoatING.aspx 

My friend and I obtained the necessary permits and started using the city playas for kayaking.

Over the years we have seen more and more people using the playa lakes for sailing, fishing, kayaking, and rafting. This is exciting.  I am glad to see more people out enjoying the resources that Lubbock has to offer.

The reality is the lakes we use have very contaminated water.  My hope is that the more people use these resources, the more people will be concerned about water quality, and maybe something good can come from this.
