I do not know when I started going to the Barnes and Noble Mystery Group http://store-locator.barnesandnoble.com/store/2364. I knew it was in existence, but was hesitant to join it. I did attend an Osher Lifelong Learning Institue http://www.depts.ttu.edu/outreach/ session that Bill Meador facilitated, and after that, I decided to join.
I was welcomed with open arms. I cannot tell you when a group of strangers have been more welcoming. I have grown to appreciate the regulars, enjoys the sporadics, and generally have a good experience wtih this group.
The April 2014 selection for the group is Thoreau at Devil's Pearch http://www.kensingtonbooks.com/book.aspx/23134. Well of course, I would vote for this selection, as it was set in Massachusetts, although the east Massachusetts, Concord, Boston world is very different from the Connecticut River Valley world in which I grew up.
But, as I read the book, I loved the language. I read phrases that I had not heard in years, and the antiquated language was so delicious! This was a fun read for me.
