We want to think of ourselves as nice people, but many of us make mean comments, usually in an emotional context without really meaning the comment. It is more an expression of a negative emotion. And, often the comments are not directed to a specific individual, but are directed at a group that is different from ourselves.
We do it sometimes as gallows humor to cope with a terrible situation. Sometimes we do it to fit in with others around us.
No circumstance makes a mean comment correct. Even if it is true, we are not placed here to be judge and jury of others, unless picked for the civil service through a due process system.
I think I need to be concious of what I think and what I say and to whom I say it.
