Haiku is very picky about eating, and I do worry about her, because she has been losing weight.. Lately, she has turned up her nose at smashed liver, and held out for human tuna. But sometimes, she does not want that either.
I have discovered something about these two foods, after all this time. I am so slow! She does better with either food if it is moist. I have started adding extra tap water to the tuna, and that seems to help. I recently cooked the liver with extra water, and using the extra moisture seems to encourage her to eat more. That is good.
But, she just might be extra hungry this weekend. I keep a couple of dishes of dry food out, and hers is usually in the kitchen, but Taki's is on the mat in the computer room. Twice this weekend, Haiku has come into the computer room and eaten dry food on Taki's mat, while her food was in the kitchen. This is really weird, because Taki is sitting on her chair, perched above the mat. And, very often, when Taki approaches Haiku when she is eating, Haiku is intimidated and takes off. I have taken to sitting with Haiku when she eats, when I can, to eliminate this intimidating behavior because intimidation is what it is. I am not sure where this bravado in Haiku has come from, but I am delighted! I have no way of knowing, but I hope it occurs when I am not around.
