Watering the lawn

West Texas continues to have record high or near record high temperatures.  And minimal rain.  I used to water my lawn to tide it over until it rains, but many of my neighbors, like myself, do not water our lawns regularly, now.  However I have some very nice trees and vines and ground cover in my back yard that I do want to keep.  So, I have been doing a little ground watering, and using the sprinkler for the vinca. The water use plan for my address allows me to "hand water" any time but to use sprinklers, etc. on Tuesday and Friday night from 6 PM to 12AM.

So, I recently changed the watering configuration of the hoses in my backyard, connecting the ground hose that waters my vines around the fence to the live hose feed, instead of the overflow feed of my rain barrel.  I also put soaker hose under the pecan tree and the El Dorado pines.  I added some y-connectors to make switching hoses a lot easier.

Maybe, in this part of the world, the hardest way to get your lawn watered is to let it rain.  Watering helps but is no substitute for a good, soaking rains.
