Tax Free Weekend

So next weekend is tax free weekend http://comptroller.texas.gov/taxinfo/taxpubs/taxholiday/m/.  This has been in effect in Texas since 1999.  It is designed to save money on back to school clothing and supplies under $100. I do not have school children, but on occasion, I have benefited from tax free weekend.  Last year, I went to the new Skechers Outlet store in Lubbock, http://local.skechers.com/tx/lubbock/590/ and bought 2 pair for half off for the second pair of the style of shoe that I like. I saved about $34 on the second pair of shoes, and $8 on taxes.  I can use $42 for something else. The really good thing is that I am still using the first pair of shoes that I started wearing.

Sometimes, the Skechers last a long time, sometimes, they wear out quickly.  I have had a pair last about 6 months.  This time, the pair of shoes I am wearing have lasted a year.  That is wonderful!

Tax free weekend is a really important benefit to families who are on a tight budget.  Good job, legislators!
