My New Nest

So, I usually work at my computer in the computer room.  I like the office chairs, but I only have two (I still regret not buying a third when I could have at the Resale Center. I need to go back and look for another chair.) Anyway, I usually sit on a card table folding chair. I have a space heater at my feet, and sometimes use a throw or wear an extra light jacket. Sometimes, when a cat is missing, I move to an office chair, as it is more comfortable.

When I felt poorly, recently, I moved my nest to the living room sofa.  I discovered that it actually feels warmer than the computer room, I suspect because the overstuffed sofa helps hold in the feeling of warmth. I also had two throws that kept me very snug, and a space heater near the sofa.  I was doing a lot of reading, because I had the time, and because I could, and because I could fall asleep and recover where I was in the book I was reading. I really enjoyed napping and reading, and napping and reading, and having a bowl of soup and napping and reading.  It was a most comfortable time, in its own way. It was very cold outside, and I was so thankful for a warm nest.

Haiku seemed to like being on the sofa with me.  She likes the computer room when the space heater is on, but she just seemed more content on the sofa with me, and I suspect that if I thought my nest on the sofa was warmer than the one in the computer room, she thought the nest  on the sofa was warmer, too. She also would ask, from time to time, to sit on my lap.  Sometimes, she asked to sit on my lap when I was sitting up, and sometimes, when I was reclining. She just likes to snuggle.  

Taki was less interested, but she would come by from time to time. 

I still use my new nest in the living room.  Sometimes, I sit on the sofa and work on the laptop on a TV tray. Sometimes, I recline on the sofa, with the laptop in my lap.  Sometimes, it is plugged in. Sometimes I am using the battery.  I use all the options I can, except with the printer.  

Although I purchased a printer that had a wireless setup, I never did set up the wireless option.  I have been thinking that I need to poke through the materials and information for the printer, and set it up wireless.  However, it is not much work to go back to the computer room, hook up the printer and print.  

Printer, Scanner, Copier

So my inexpensive printer could not be resurrected today.  I decided that I was going to look for another Hewlett Packard printer that takes the same cartridge, because I had spares.  And printer cartridges are expensive.  So, I went to Wal-Mart http://www.walmart.com/ first, and decided to look elsewhere, specifically Office Depot.  Well between Wal Mart and Office Depot  http://www.officedepot.com/there was Target http://www.target.com/ !  I stopped in, and sure enough, they had a couple of printers that take the same cartridge as I had. Both took the same cartridge. One was the last model they had on the shelf, and marked half off.  So I bought a really inexpensive printer at a really low price, less expensive that it costs to buy a set of black and colored cartridges for the printer!  And, for now, it works.

This is especially important, because what I did not write yesterday, was that this is the week leading up to the NASW conference.  For that conference, I am charged with making pre-registration lists, sign in sheets, and printing off the completed attendance verification forms that we are asking our registrants to complete before the conference.  So, I need to be able to print, and I can!

Printer Problem

I have a Hewlett Packard Printer Scanner Copier.  I purchased it in 2014, and have never been really happy with it.  I could not print post cards, and the paper feed has always been a problem.  Today, I was trying to print, and it just did not happen.  I did all of the trouble shooting HP offered on line to no avail. I am so frustrated. So, tonight, I have disconnected the power from the printer. I will try again in the morning, and if nothing works, I will just get a new Printer Scanner Copier, and hope it is not anything more than a cheap Printer Scanner Copier.

Printing, Part 2

So this is weird.  I had something to print from the Internet tonight, and it printed just fine.  I do not understand about this.  Especially because yesterday when I was trying to print, the settings said my printer was working properly.   So weird.

Printing

So, I was trying to print a Barnes and Noble discount coupon tonight. When I sent it to the printer, either nothing happened, or the paper went through the printer without anything being printed on it.

I tried all kinds of things:  First of all, I checked the ink levels.  Ok.  I printed a word document. Ok.  I got on help, and tried the things they suggested, checking commands and settings. I unplugged the USB cord and reconnected. I unplugged the printer and reconnected. I shut off the computer. 

Finally, I highlighted the coupon and transferred it to a word document and had it printed that way. 

I have printed from the Internet before. I hope I can still do that in the future.  But this was frustrating tonight.

The New Printer

So, today was the day that I had to set up the new printer.  I was in hopes that all would go smoothly.  And, in fact, it did. Until I tried to set up a file to print a postcard.  Either the new printer, or Microsoft Office, did not want to accept the size parameters for a post card.  I worked and worked and worked.  I had to reinstall the printer at one point.  I figured out I could set up a postcard message as if it were the address on a small business envelope, and adjust it to fit on the postcard. But, the post cards are so light weight, they will not go through the printer.  Grrr.

I will contact the post office to see if I can just glue information on the post card. If not, I will send out first class notices.

In the process, I learned a lot about working with Microsoft Office 2010 and my new printer.

Printer,Scanner, Copier

I have a Hewlitt Packard 750 Printer, Scanner, Copier http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/Laptops?aoid=51318&keyword=hp%20computer&KWID=248473&002=2190637&006=14195373668&007=Search&008=&009=b&012=hp%20computer&021=17986217381.   I am not sure when I purchased it, but probably about 2005. And, it has served me well. Until recently. Sometimes, it does not want to make copies. Looking at the troubleshooting information in the manual it came with, the bulb for the scanning function may be too dim.  I have been able to finagle the copier to work, but I think, sooner or later, I will not be able to do that

I went online to look for help, or a local authorized HP service provider. I could not find one. I will call next week and try to find one.  I do not know how I feel about packaging and shipping my printer to have a bulb changed. That seems extreme. 

I suspect, looking at new printer prices, it would be less expensive to eventually buy a new printer.  So much for planned obsolescence.
