Soccer Moms

So, I don't get it.  I went for a walk tonight, and my route took me by the park in my neighborhood.  At that time of day, during this time of year, there are lots of children in the park, practicing soccer.  They mark off the field and goal with cones.  The cars line the park.  As I went by the cars, in almost every other car, a mom or a mom and her friend were sitting: texting, talking, but not watching their children.  It was a little warm out, and the park does not have benches where the children practice, but there were plenty of parents and siblings near the practice field supporting the soccer players. What's wrong with these moms?  Don't they care how and what their children are doing?

I have to excuse one person.  She was obviously studying from a text book.  If she is the mother of small children, the time at soccer practice is probably the only quiet early evening time she has to study.  I get that. 

But the other mothers?  Get involved!  You could have paid a taxi to take your child to and from soccer practice. 

FIFA Women's World Cup

This year, the FIFA Women's World Cup http://www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/teams/index.html is being staged in Canada, and today was opening day. I watched a large part of the first game, between Canada and China, and when I switched to the Yankee vs. Angels http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=nyy&tcid=mm_mlb_sitelist baseball game, the game was tied 0-0.  Canada won!  I will watch some of the games this year, since I enjoyed the FIFA Men's World Cup http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/round=255959/match=300186501/ last year.

Soccer

I do not know much about what we call, in the United States, soccer, but the rest of the world knows as football. I do know that currently, the World Cup is being played in Brazil. And I know FIFA (the Fédération Internationale de Football Association http://www.fifa.com/aboutfifa/organisation/index.html) is the world governing body. 

If you listen or watch any news, you will know that the previous World Cup champions, the team from Spain, has been eliminated from the match!  This is big news in football circles.

I watched a football game the other day, with my niece and her friend, and they explained a little about the rules to me.  I also have looked through some of the rules.

I am trying to develop a broader view of the world.  I am not working hard at it, but I am trying to pay attention.  International sports is included in that, so I am paying attention to the FIFA World Cup results.
